True North Book Prize
The True North Book Prize is an annual award established by the Canada History Society to recognize the best book published on the theme of Canadian National History. The prize will be awarded every July 1st to coincide with Canada Day. This document outlines the project management plan to successfully implement and sustain the award.
2. Objectives
- Recognize and promote excellence in Canadian historical writing.
- Encourage scholarship and public engagement with Canadian history.
- Establish the award as a prestigious annual event within the literary and historical communities.
- Ensure a transparent and effective process for nominations, judging, and award presentation.
3. Governance & Administration
Project Lead: Canada History Society Steering Committee
Project Team:
- Program Coordinator (oversees nominations, communication, and logistics)
- Judging Panel (3-4 historians, authors, and experts in Canadian history)
Stakeholders:
- Canada History Society members
- Canadian publishers, authors, and scholars
- Sponsors and funding partners
- Media and historical organizations
4. Award Criteria & Eligibility
- The book must be on the theme of Canadian National History.
- It must have been published within the previous 12 months.
- Books can be written by Canadian or international authors, but must focus on Canada’s national history.
- Both academic and non-fiction popular history books are eligible.
- Self-published books and works of fiction are not eligible.
- Nominations must include a 100-word summary of the book’s theme, contents, and author contact information.
- The deadline for nominations is April 15 each year.
